New NIS 2 Portal: ACN Portal
One of the main aspects of the NIS2 Directive is the requirement for companies to register on a dedicated digital platform. All organizations that meet the requirements set by the NIS2 Directive must register on a specific portal managed by the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN). The NIS2 directive also introduces these provisions to strengthen cybersecurity and digital protection for companies (insert external link to the regulation and official directive).
The creation of the portal aims to consolidate the national cybersecurity system, promoting more effective cooperation between entities falling within the NIS framework and the ACN.
Who is obligated to register?
Companies operating in strategic and vital sectors, as defined by the Directive, as well as all businesses meeting specific size criteria—at least 50 employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet greater than 10 million euros—are required to register.
These businesses are required to comply with cybersecurity regulations and complete their registration on the ACN Portal to enable the monitoring and management of national cybersecurity.
Registration steps and deadlines
The registration procedure involves several key stages:
- Census on the ACN Portal: The first step is the authentication of the Point of Contact, who must use their personal credentials to access the platform.
During this stage, identifying data is collected and verified to confirm the authenticity of the Point of Contact and their legitimate authority to represent the organization. - Linking the Point of Contact: After authentication, the system verifies the legitimacy of the Point of Contact through the validation of official documents, ensuring the integrity of the system.
- Validation and Registration: The final step involves approval by the NIS entity, which is communicated via a notification sent to the Point of Contact’s digital domicile.
Once confirmed, the ACN sends an official communication certifying the successful completion of the registration. This phase ensures the official association between the Point of Contact and the NIS entity, ensuring compliance and system protection
Creation of the Official NIS Entities List
Registration allows for the inclusion of the NIS entity in an official list managed by the Competent National Authority. This list serves as a key tool for the monitoring and management of entities involved in national cybersecurity.
Each entity listed receives a unique identification code, which serves as a reference point for both the organization and the Point of Contact. The registration of NIS entities enables the relevant authorities to continuously monitor critical infrastructures, thereby strengthening the protection and resilience of the national cybersecurity system.
